operators call upon militants to reconsider decision

SRINAGAR, MAY 13, KPS: Cable operators of the Kashmir valley have decided
not air any obscene programme in coming future. They have called upon
the militant outfits to reconsider the decision about imposing the ban
on the cable operations in the valley.
In a statement to KPS,, the spokesman of the association said that a
meeting of the members of the Kashmir cable operators was held here
on Saturday, during the course of the meeting it was decided that in
future cable operators won’t air any such channel, which is obscene.
“Cable operators too are a part of the Kashmiri society and they
would make sure that they play a role in building the neat and clean
society,” statement added.
Statement further said, “We call upon the militant leadership
to reconsider their decision about imposing the ban on the cable network
in the valley, as there are more than 25000 people earn their livelihood
through this network.”
Meanwhile, cable operators took out a procession from Lal Chowk to Hurriyat
(G) headquarters at Rajbagh on Saturday. They were demanding that militant
outfits should reconsider the decision about imposing the ban on cable
networks. Later cable operators met the chairman of his faction of Hurriyat,
Sayed Ali Shah Geelani and apprised him about the problems.
Sources said that Geelani told them that, Hurriyat would conduct a meeting
in this regard and after taking the opinion of all the party leaders,
any step would be taken. They added, Geelani told the cable operators
that it is the responsibility of the cable operators to not to air obscene
progarmmes.
